EWS (Extreme Weather Shelter)

Safe Haven Housing and Support Services is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of homeless individuals, especially during extreme weather conditions. Our Emergency Shelter Response goes beyond providing shelter; it’s a comprehensive approach to offer a warm space during cold nights and a cooling center during hot summers.

Warm Shelter Space

Nighttime Shelter Program:

As part of our Emergency Shelter Response, Safe Haven will operate a Nighttime Shelter Program designed to provide a warm and safe space for individuals during extremely cold nights. When temperatures plummet and conditions become hazardous, our shelter doors open to offer refuge, ensuring that no one is left exposed to the harsh elements.

Extended Hours After MAP Program:

Understanding the vulnerability of individuals after the closure of the Mobile Assistance Program (MAP), our Emergency Shelter Response will extend warm shelter hours. This ensures that individuals have a place to stay even after the MAP program closes, mitigating the risks associated with extremely cold weather.

Winter Essentials:

During the colder months, we provide essential winter gear, including blankets, warm clothing, and hygiene kits. Our goal is not only to offer shelter but also to promote the well-being and dignity of those seeking refuge from the cold.

Cooling Center for Hot Summers

Summer Relief Services:

Our commitment to Emergency Relief Services will extend to hot summer days as well. Safe Haven will operate a Cooling Center during extreme heat, providing a cool and comfortable environment for individuals to escape the sweltering temperatures.

Hydration Stations:

In addition to shelter, our Cooling Center is equipped with hydration stations to ensure individuals have access to water, preventing dehydration and associated health risks during the hot summer months.

Sun Protection Supplies:

We prioritize the health and safety of those utilizing our Cooling Center. Sunscreen, hats, and other sun protection supplies are available to safeguard against the harmful effects of prolonged sun exposure.

Comprehensive Care

Health Check-ups:

During both warm and cold seasons, our shelter response will include on-site health check-ups. Medical professionals collaborate with Safe Haven to assess and address any health concerns individuals may have, ensuring their overall well-being.

Coordination with Outreach Teams:

Our Emergency Shelter Response will closely coordinate with outreach teams that actively engage with individuals in the community. This collaboration helps identify those in need, ensuring that our services reach those who may not seek shelter through traditional means.

Advocacy and Preparedness

Community Engagement:

We actively engage with the community to raise awareness about the Emergency Shelter Response program. Through partnerships with local organizations and government agencies, we advocate for a collective effort to ensure the safety and well-being of homeless individuals during extreme weather conditions.

Preparedness Training:

Our staff and volunteers undergo regular training to respond effectively to emergencies. This ensures a coordinated and efficient response, maximizing our ability to support those in need during challenging weather conditions.
